We caught up with him to chat about key milestones, favourite memories, and the personal process behind his growing discography.
Hi Jacob, thanks for joining us – how’s everything going?
Everything has been great. I’ve been spending a couple of months refining my sound, which I’m excited to showcase soon.
What’s the first track you remember truly connecting with, and does it still influence your approach to music today?
The first track I remember connecting with was ‘Sandstorm’ by Darude at a summer camp. The connection I had with that track was more about me and my friends jumping around and having a great time. At the moment, though, I wouldn’t say it actually influences my productions as I play a different genre of House, but the vibe was definitely there.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from another creator?
Trust your intuition and be patient about its manifestation.
Do you have an all-time favourite club or venue?
Definitely Pacha NYC from back in the day.
What was the first piece of equipment that helped shape your journey into music production?
It’s gotta be the piano.
What’s been your favourite moment behind the decks so far?
It’s more about a type of energy I feel. I love to feel locked in, and that the crowd is
moving with me instead of just standing there watching me.
Do you remember the first time you played your own music in front of a crowd? What was that like?
It wasn’t me that played it, but the headliner for club Space in New York (Oscar G) played it, and I was absolutely losing my mind when I heard it lol. I was telling all my friends around me that it was my song that they were hearing, and some of them really didn’t believe me at first. It was cool because afterwards, a lot of people were posting clips of the track, thinking it was the headliners instead of mine. Overall, it was a great experience.
What was the first track you ever made – and how do you feel about it now when you listen back?
I can’t even remember the first track I ever made, but it wasn’t House music. I was producing Hip Hop and RnB music out of a keyboard workstation and didn’t even know how to transfer the files to an actual audio format, so I’d save the project in the keyboard and just leave it there and end up having to erase it. When I listen back to older House tracks I’ve made, I’m always critical about them and think about how awful certain things sound lol – but the ideas I laid down were cool.
Can you share a particularly memorable episode of your Made To Move radio show and what made it stand out for you?
I can’t say which particular episodes they were, but I had two shows trending on Mixcloud’s Top 10 Latin House charts at the same time, with one show being at number 1. Obviously, this type of accomplishment means a lot to me, and I really appreciate the support I’m receiving from my listeners who tune in every week.
Lastly, is there a favourite artist right now you think people should be paying attention to?
My listening habits are all over the place, so it depends on what kind of mood I’m in. I’ve been listening to a lot of Hip-Hop recently, like Wiz Khalifa, Dame D.O.L.LA, and Lil Wayne just dropped an album, as well as a few other Reggaeton artists like Feid or Young Miko.
